Help to buy – the final year

With around one year left in the latest ‘Help to Buy’ scheme of 2021-2023, we reflect upon the changes from the previous mortgage guarantee scheme which ended on 31 December 2016 and look at what comes next, and also to the other home purchase assistance schemes operating in England and Wales. We offer some thoughts on the message and merits of these schemes for clients including those within the rental sector and their impact in the light of current socio-economic factors and 2022 house prices. We will also include observations on current mortgage lending and whether efforts in that area can improve the housing market and the opportunities for the client.
