You might be forgiven for being a little confused as regards the current billing of Police Station and Magistrates’ Court work.

Nothing happened for years and then we have had a raft of Statutory Instruments since 2022 and they are as follows:

SI 2022 No. 848
SI 2024 No. 1163
SI 2024 No. 1270
SI 2025 No. 1251

All of the above Statutory Instruments have amended the 2013 Regulations (SI 2013 No.435)

This presentation will bring you completely up to date with your fees in 2026 and, perhaps just as importantly, direct you as to where you find a particular fee!

Below are merely 6 examples of the things that will be covered:

  1. The current nationwide Police Station fixed fee and the escape fee and what you have to do in order to escape
  2. The somewhat limited circumstances in which you may be able to claim for travel time in relation to your Police Station claim
  3. The current hourly rates payable for Police Station work/Youth Court work/Adult Magistrates’ Court work/
  4. The standard fees table as regards Adult Magistrates’ Court work
  5. The standard fees table as regards Youth Court work
  6. The claiming of a non-standard fee at hourly rates on a CRM 7

This session will be of use to anyone involved in criminal legal aid whether you bill the work or not

All Levels – this can be picked up throughout anyone’s professional career regardless of experience

The object of the exercise during this presentation is to familiarise you with the current fees that may be claimed and the relevant Statutory Instrument in which that fee is located.

You will learn, amongst other things, the following 3 facts:

1 – Your current fees

2 – Where to find those fees

3 – The circumstances in which you are not claiming a fixed fee or a standard fee but rather hourly rates for the work that you have done at the Police Station/in the Youth Court/in the Adult Magistrates’ Court
