As a result of Statutory Instrument 2025 No. 909, the new Criminal Procedure Rules 2025 will come into effect on 6th October 2025. These Rules incorporate all amendments made to the 2020 Rules, as well as all supplements resulting from the Criminal Practice Directions 2023.

This live webinar is the perfect opportunity for anyone unfamiliar with the Rules to bring themselves up to speed. While there are 50 Rules in total, we will focus on 16 of the most important ones, giving you practical knowledge you can apply immediately.

Anyone involved in criminal law - whether prosecuting, defending, or advising justices should have a working understanding of this key document. Think of the Rules as the ‘lubrication’ of the criminal justice system, regulating proceedings in the Magistrates’ Court, Crown Court and Court of Appeal.

This session will be of use to anyone involved in any capacity in the criminal justice system.

This webinar is suitable for all levels

1 – The stage at which proceedings may be discontinued in a Magistrates’ Court

2 – Those things which, according to the Lord Chief Justice, should be included in IDPC if the items are in the possession of the CPS

3 – Time limits as regards Statutory Declarations and the fact that there are no time limits as regards re-openings

The object of the exercise during this 45- minute webinar is to familiarise you with important issues and concepts concerning 16 of the Criminal Procedure Rules. We shall consider IDPC/Disclosure/Discontinuance/Hearsay/Bad Character/Statutory Declarations/Re-openings and much more
