  • SI 2024 No. 1163 – changes with effect from the 6th December 2024
  • Statutory Instrument 2025 No. 1251 – changes with effect from the 22nd December 2025 and the 31st December 2025.

Legal aid fees have also been increased in the following areas:

  • Attendance upon clients at the police station stage
  • The Youth Court
  • The Adult Magistrates’ Court – including the fees claimable by a Court Duty Solicitor
  • Litigator fees for proceedings in the Court of Appeal
  • Advice and assistance on an appeal against conviction or sentence or application to the Criminal Cases Review Commission

Anyone who is regarded as a fee earner in the area of criminal legal aid and anyone who is in any way responsible for the billing of criminal legal aid

    About the speaker

    Colin Beaumont

    Colin Beaumont graduated in law in 1981 and qualified as a Barrister in 1982. Colin spent many years advising magistrates before re-qualifying as a solicitor in 1996 and spending 20 years as a solicitor practising/advising on defence work. Colin has been involved in teaching the profession (both solicitors and barristers) for more than 25 years, and continues to do so.
