Introduction to Residential Leasehold Property

This course is designed to provide an introduction to residential leasehold property and residential property leases, including an examination of what you should and shouldn’t see in a residential lease.

You will learn about:

What is leasehold property and what is a lease
Leaseholder’s rights; what should you be looking out for and what do you need to make sure the leaseholder has the right to do
Landlord’s rights; what rights will a landlord have over the property
Leaseholder’s covenants and regulations; what can’t the leaseholder do, or what should they be complying with.
Landlord’s obligations; what should the landlord be responsible for doing, or not doing, under the provisions of the lease
Alienation Provisions; what a leaseholder might have to do before selling/transferring the property
Service Charges, service charge disputes and the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber)
Ground Rent including ground rent in new leases, escalating ground rents, lender’s requirements and the interaction with The Renters’ Rights Act 2025
