The Crime and Policing Act 2026

We have just been given our 1^st Commencement Order as regards this major Act of Parliament – numerous provisions brought into force on the 29th June 2026 – we can expect other Commencement Orders

This presentation will MAINLY concentrate on those Sections in force as at the time of the presentation but, in addition, will also highlight other important areas of the Act, albeit they are may not yet be in force and we await the various Commencement Orders bringing those Sections into force – the following are merely examples of the material that will be covered during the presentation:

1. Offensive weapons and knife crime – a new offence of possessing a knife with intent to use it in crime, even if no violence occurs
2. The removal of the £200 low-value shoplifting threshold
3. Spiking to be made a standalone criminal offence
4. Powers to drug test upon arrest for more trigger offences, not just after charge
5. Breach of a Domestic Abuse Protection Order to be a criminal offence across the whole of the UK
6. A new offence in relation to climbing on memorials
