Behaviour Change Campaign
Remember A Charity is a consortium of 200 UK charities, working together with partners and the legal sector to make charitable gifts in Wills the social norm.
Our research shows that 40% of the UK want to leave a gift to charity in their Will, after taking care of family and friends, but only 7% currently do.
Remember A Charity exists to help grow the legacy market, by addressing this disconnect with current giving behaviour by raising awareness and increasing understanding amongst the public.
To do that, we need your help... We want to ensure that professional advisors consistently mention the charitable option when advising clients on their Wills, whilst recognising the importance of looking after family and friends first before considering a charitable gift.
Our research with the Cabinet Office Behavioural Insights Team showed that mentioning the charitable option to clients can triple the likelihood of them leaving a gift.
An easy way to bring up the topic is to mention how leaving money to charity can be a way of reducing how much of your client’s estate ends up with HMRC. Not only will any portion left to charity not count towards the total taxable value of your estate, but if at least 10 per cent of a net estate is left to charity your client benefits from an IHT discount from 40% to 36%.
By letting your clients know that including a gift to charity is an option, after looking after family and friends, you can help them to continue supporting the causes they care about.
