Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing (EDI&W)

Ask a Question

We have been obliged to ‘encourage’ equality, diversity and inclusion in our workplaces for years, but the recent addition of Rule 1.5 into our Code of Conduct for Solicitors has upped the ante and requires us as firms to look out for the wellbeing of our staff too.

What does the SRA seek to achieve by interfering in our workplace rules in this way? Sure, it seeks to stamp out a bullying culture but surely employment law does that adequately already? Besides, we are just exacting professionals with high standards, and if staff cannot step up to the mark then they may be called out on it.

Is that how we should be thinking, or should we be showing a modicum of humanity in our relations with our staff and team-mates?

This For Legal webinar provides you with an interactive 60-minute session with Trevor Hellawell, who has shared his knowledge of the legal profession for over 25 years.
